I am currently the Environmental Education Coordinator for the Center for Environmental Studies and for the Department of Botany, where I also direct the Science Service Learning Project.Final ReportI joined the Center for Environmental Studies following the completion of the Arizona Comparative Environmental Risk Project (ACERP), which she directed for the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. She holds a Bachelors degree in geography from california State University, Northridge and two graduate degrees from Arizona State University: a Masters in Geography and a Doctorate in Botany.
Dr. Paul Johnson
Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, ASU
Dr. Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Arizona State University, where he has been on the faculty since 1994. Prior to that time he was a Senior Research Engineer at Shell Oil Companyís Westhollow Technology Center in Houston, TX, where he led activities directed towards the remediation and management of hazardous waste sites, including site assessment, risk assessment, remediation, and monitoring. Dr. Johnson teaches courses focused on soil and groundwater remediation, contaminant fate and transport, and risk assessment, and conducts sponsored research in those areas as well. He received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Davis and Princeton University, respectively.Final Report
He is the principal author of the ASTM Guide to Risk-Based Corrective Action (RBCA) at Petroleum Release Sites, which is now the basis for corrective action programs in many states, as well as the focus for a major USEPA-industry partnership. He is also an author of the ASTM training program for Risk-Based Corrective Action, and is a certified trainer for this same training initiative presently underway in more than 40 states nationwide. He is a co-chair of the ASTM task group focused on voluntary risk-based clean-ups at RCRA and Superfund sites.
Dr. Johnson has extensive experience in conducting risk evaluations and selecting and designing remedial systems at contaminated soil and groundwater sites ranging from service stations to Superfund sites; these encompass a wide range of hazardous chemicals including petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, pesticides, and metals. He has served as a technical advisor to USEPA, US DOD, US DOE, and industry on numerous restoration and risk assessment projects, as well as an advisor to several states on regulatory program development.
